My Street: Then and Now

I found a picture of my street and building from 1916 so I decided to take a photograph of how the street looks now, from around the same spot as the original photographer (click on image for larger view).

1916

2007

Not many trees in the 1916 shot and only a few things changed on this side of the street. I'll take another photo when the leaves are no longer on the trees to get a better comparison.

WOW! That's amazing. And the ad is sort of barely still discernable...or at least an outline of it. Great job of matching up the shot!

BTW, a real shame that the cornice of the building on the corner is now totally gone.

I took a close look at it and it's not ghosted, it's totally gone and was intentionally removed. The brick is darker in that area though. In the earlier photo, I can't read the first word but assume the second is "Court(s)."

Yeah, the cornices are especially vulnerable. It might have been made out of wood and deteriorated.

The other thing I think is really cool is that someone from 1916 were to show up, they could totally recognize this street and the buildings. Major changes, but still recognizable and familiar.

I wonder if the "Courts" sign was an ad for the company that built the building. Hm.

Yes! The street is remarkably well-preserved. Makes a person wish for a time-travel machine....
